Antique Movie Theater Cinema Folding Seats General Seating Co Chicago Metal Wood Art Deco
A disassembled set or short row of Antique Movie Theatre seats made of cast iron and wood. Manufactured by the General Seating Company of Chicago IL, and is believed representative of "The General Chair". Company was in operation from at least the 1930's until after 1950s.
Seat set was disassembled about 20 years ago in plans to put together with new cushions, etc. Seats have remained in this condition since disassembly, with no advancement, but have remained in dry indoor storage since first received. Great restoration project. Leather offered was found about same time but has not been cut to size, and not sufficient to cover all seats cushions. Obvious signs of wear and rust on all parts. Seats were told to have been reclaimed from the Model Theater of Harrisville
, West Virginia. Originally known as T
he Electric theater, it
was in operation by at least 1932
until reopened as the Model
same location by 1953. Eventually closing in 1973, the building was razed in 1984.
Purchased from a resale shop in Harrisville in the late 1990s by prior owner also with intentions to refurbish.

2 aisle end cast iron supports- Red w/ Silver fins, ~23"x14", (595LA-3, 595RA-3)

6 bi-sided cast iron w/ wood arm rest seat supports/legs- Black, ~23"x13"
Legs aided in connection by use of seat back support "hinges" (see photos)

5 steel spring wooden seats cushions, some burlap covering remains- ~17"x14-1/2"

wooden seat backs, ALL show some sign of splitting damage top and/or bottom- ~20-1/2"x19"/17"

6 sheet metal seat bottom covers- ALL show rust (4)16-1/2"x15", (2) 16-1/2"x14-1/2"
