1938 Historical Copeland Spode Tyler Texas Plate "The Rose City" 10.5" Diameter. Very interesting plate.
Historical plate, produced in 1938 by the Copeland Spode Pottery in Staffordshire, England. The plate features Tyler, Texas, often named "The Rose City" because it is the home to the largest Rose field in the world. Three Texas governors (Richard B. Hubbard, Oran M. Roberts, and James S. Hogg) who hailed from Tyler have portraits in the rim. It also features some of the flora found in the state (dogwoods and some of the industries - like the oil fields, farming, and fishing. The center of the plate features the Texas Rose and label "Tyler the Rose City”. The Mary Tyler Chapter of the National Society for the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) sponsored plate’s manufacture in 1938
